Qualifications of a Member Organization's Representative

The representative to an Interest Group (By-laws, section 4.01) of a member organization shall be an authorized member of the organization who has policy=making authority, and who has been accredited in writing to the Secretary of the CYA.

General Interest Group, Organization of

Member organizations shall be assigned membership in a General Interest Group by the CYA. Each General Interest Group shall elect one voting representative from among its Group to serve as a Director on the Board of the CYA, who shall be accredited in writing of the CYA.

Specific Issues Process

Issues to be brought before the CYA for consideration may be brought before the designated committee of the CYA or before the Board of Directors of the CYA in writing by:

a.) The accredited representative of the member organization, or
b.) By the General Interest Group's representative to the Board of Directors of the CYA, or
c.) By an individual designated by a. or b. above because of his or her knowledge of the issue.

Admission to Membership in the CYA

Upon certification by the Secretary of the CYA that the applicant organization meets the requirements for membership in the CYA as defined in the By-laws of the organization in Article 4 and Par. 6.04, 6.05 and 8.02 and that applicant organization has paid all applicable fees and dues, acceptance to membership shall be by majority vote of the Board of Directors of the CYA at a regularly-scheduled Board meeting.

Established General Interest Groups

General Interest Group #01
Includes organizations that are yacht clubs, as defined in the By-laws, Par. 4.01.02, and organizations generally known as boat clubs.

General Interest Group #02
Includes organizations whose major interests are underwater-related; organizations formed to promote the common interests of owners' of marine craft built by one manufacturer; and organizations that are primarily engaged in sail training activities.

General Interest Group #03
Consists of organizations whose primary activities involve the manufacture of, or marketing and selling of watercraft.

General Interest Group #04
Includes organizations whose primary activities involve the storage of watercraft, organizations who market and sell marine-related parts, equipment and supplies, and organizations who service and repair marine-related equipment.

General Interest Group #05
Includes non-profit and not-for-profit organizations primarily involved with maritime activities; for example, "Friends of ________" organizations.

General Interest Group #06
Membership in this group is limited to trade associations who have a primary maritime focus.

General Interest Group #07
Consists of members who own and/or operate fishing vessels for hire, as well as organizations whose primary interests are centered on the promotion of fishing activities.

General Interest Group #08
Consists of members who own and/or operate recreational tour boats for hire, and organizations representing professional mariners, but excluding owners or operators of fishing vessels for hire.

General Interest Group #09
Consists of organizations whose primary activities center on marine safety and marine safety education.

General Interest Group #10
Includes organizations primarily engaged in the selling and/or marketing of marine-related insurance.

General Interest Group #11
Includes organizations primarily engaged in marine-related design services, engineering services, and surveying services.

General Interest Group #12
Consists of organizations whose members own, or organizations who operate for hire, human-powered recreational vessels.
